How to Export Your ManaBox Collection and Move It to Foilio

You do not need to scan your Magic: The Gathering collection again when moving from ManaBox to Foilio. ManaBox can export the collection as a CSV file, and Foilio can read that file, match its cards, and show a preview before writing anything.
The transfer preserves card quantities, exact printings when they can be identified, and Foil or Non-foil status. It does not reproduce every piece of ManaBox data, so keep the original export as a backup and read the limitations below before importing a large collection.
Foilio is a free MTG collection tracker on iPhone, iPad, and Android. The import preview is included and does not require a paid plan.
If terms such as Scryfall ID, set code, collector number, printing, or finish are new to you, the MTG collection glossary explains what each field identifies.
Before You Start
You need:
- the ManaBox app with the collection you want to move;
- Foilio installed on iPhone, iPad, or Android;
- enough time to review a few uncertain or unmatched rows;
- a safe copy of the original CSV export.
Do not edit the original file before the first attempt. ManaBox includes Scryfall IDs, set codes, and collector numbers in its export, which give Foilio better ways to identify the exact printing than the card name alone.
1. Export Your Collection from ManaBox
Open the Collection tab in ManaBox and use the menu in the top-right corner to export the whole collection as a CSV file. Save or share the file to a location you can reach from the device running Foilio.
ManaBox also allows a single binder or list to be exported from that binder or list’s own menu. For a full migration, use the collection-level export so the file contains every owned card. ManaBox’s official import and export guide describes both options and notes that the full export includes card properties and binder or list names.
Keep one untouched copy of this CSV. It is useful for checking the migration and preserves fields Foilio does not currently import.
2. Choose the CSV in Foilio
In Foilio, open:
Settings → Collections → Import Collection
Tap Choose file and select the CSV exported from ManaBox. Foilio recognizes the ManaBox columns automatically; you do not need to rename headers or rearrange the spreadsheet.
The import reads the file and looks up the corresponding printings. Nothing is added to the collection at this stage.
3. Choose How Existing Cards Should Be Handled
Foilio offers two modes:
Add to what you have
Counts from the CSV are added to the copies already recorded in Foilio. Use this when the ManaBox file represents additional physical cards that are not yet included in your Foilio totals.
Do not run the same file twice in this mode. A second import adds the quantities again and doubles those cards.
Use the counts from the file
For every card listed in the CSV, the ManaBox quantity becomes the quantity in Foilio. Cards that are not mentioned in the file remain untouched; the import never deletes the rest of your Foilio collection.
This is usually the safer option when ManaBox is your current source of truth or when you are repeating an import after correcting a file.
If your Foilio collection is empty, both modes produce the same result on the first import.
4. Review the Preview
Foilio prepares a preview before saving anything. Pay attention to three groups:
- Matched cards have a sufficiently specific result and need no individual action.
- Cards to review were matched with less certainty, often because the file did not provide enough printing information. Check the set, collector number, art, and finish. Deselect a result if it is the wrong printing.
- Cards not found will not be imported. Copy the list, correct those rows in a separate copy of the CSV, and import the corrected file again.
ManaBox exports normally contain a Scryfall ID, which is the strongest identifier available to the importer. Foilio falls back to set and collector number, then card name and set, and finally the card name alone. The farther the match falls through that sequence, the more important the preview becomes.
For valuable cards, repeated artwork, promos, and unusual versions, compare the result with our guide to identifying the exact MTG printing.
What Moves—and What Does Not
| Data from ManaBox | Imported into Foilio? |
|---|---|
| Card quantity | Yes |
| Exact printing | Yes, when identified from the Scryfall ID or printing details |
| Foil or Non-foil | Yes |
| Binder or list name | No |
| Condition | No |
| Language | No |
| Purchase price and currency | No |
| Misprint or altered status | No |
| Decks and deck assignments | No |
| Wishlists | No |
Foilio currently models imported ownership as a card printing, a finish, and a quantity. ManaBox keeps more information for an individual copy, including condition, language, and purchase price. Those columns remain in your original CSV but are not written to Foilio.
ManaBox binder names do not become Foilio albums automatically. After the import, create the albums you need and move cards into them manually. If your physical location system depends on binder names, keep the CSV until that organization has been rebuilt.
Foilio distinguishes Foil and Non-foil ownership. An etched finish from an imported file is currently treated as Foil rather than as a third separate finish.
5. Confirm the Import
After checking the preview, confirm the import. Foilio may spend some time preparing prices before it writes a large collection. Leave the app open until the completion screen appears.
The relevant sets are enabled automatically, so imported cards should appear in the collection without a separate set-selection step. Price data may continue to fill in after the cards themselves are visible.
6. Check the Result
Do not inspect thousands of rows one by one. A small, deliberate sample catches most migration problems:
- Compare the total number of imported copies with the ManaBox export.
- Check one common Non-foil card and one Foil card.
- Check a card with several printings that share the same artwork.
- Check a promo, borderless, showcase, or other special version.
- Check one high-value card before relying on the collection total.
- Recreate any albums or physical-location structure you need.
If several results point to the wrong set, use a copy of the CSV and verify the Set code, Collector number, and Scryfall ID columns. Preserve commas and quotation marks in card names when saving the corrected file.
Keep an Exportable Way Out
A collection should not be trapped in one app. After the migration, Foilio can export the collection again as an Excel spreadsheet, a plain-text card list, or a JSON backup. Keeping the original ManaBox CSV and a fresh Foilio export gives you two independent records of the move.
If you prefer maintaining a separate spreadsheet as well, our MTG collection spreadsheet guide and template explains which fields are worth keeping.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I export my collection from ManaBox?
Open ManaBox’s Collection tab, use the top-right menu, and choose the CSV export for the whole collection. Save one untouched copy, then select that file in Foilio under Settings → Collections → Import Collection.
Do I need to rescan my cards after leaving ManaBox?
No. A ManaBox CSV can move the collection directly into Foilio. Only unmatched or uncertain rows need manual attention.
Will the import delete cards already in Foilio?
No. Neither import mode deletes cards that the file does not mention. The additive mode increases existing counts; the other mode sets counts only for cards listed in the file.
Can Foilio import ManaBox binders as albums?
Not currently. Binder and list names remain in the CSV but are not turned into Foilio albums. Recreate the organization manually after verifying the cards.
Will condition, language, and purchase price transfer?
No. Foilio identifies the printing and transfers quantity and finish, but currently drops those copy-level fields. Keep the source CSV if you need them later.
Is there a collection-size or scanner limit in Foilio?
Foilio is currently completely free, with no collection-size, feature, or scanner limit. See the free MTG collection tracker overview for the current feature set.
